"Correlation makes no a priori assumption
as to whether one variable is dependent on the other(s)
and is not concerned with the relationship between variables; instead it gives an estimate as to the degree of association between the variables. In fact, correlation analysis tests for
interdependence of the variables.
As regression attempts to describe the dependence of a variable on one (or more) explanatory
variables; it implicitly assumes that there is a one-way causal effect from the explanatory variable(s) to the response variable, regardless of whether the path of effect is direct or indirect.
There are advanced regression methods that allow a non-dependence based relationship to be described (eg. Principal Components Analysis or PCA) and these will be touched on later".

The main focus of research at NCSE has been the development of methodologies for modelling the dynamics of animal
populations and fitting these models to time series of data. The fitting algorithms developed are based on three different approaches. The first of these is the Kalman filter, used
together with maximum likelihood methods. The other two approaches both use Bayesian methods, with model fitting carried out using either Markov chain Monte Carlo or sequential importance
sampling.
NCSE is steadily broadening its areas of research expertise and activities. Active areas of research include
animal movement models, metapopulation models, community models, distance sampling, mark-recapture, biodiversity monitoring, random effects models in ecology, modelling ecological point process
data and parameter redundancy in ecological models.

recherche publics.

MAD-Environnement (Modeling Analysis of Data in Environment) was created in 2007 by Florent
Arrignon and Sebastien Delmotte, PhDs in Sciences, specialized in statistics and modeling applied to environmental sciences.
This company was created because of the will to provide different actors
in the Environment field with techniques and numerical tools to analyze data and predict processes, some of these tools not being widely used outside the Research field
yet.
MAD-Environnement builds its offers and products on a large part of Research and Development within the company, made in collaboration with public research
laboratories.

Consultancy agency for Statistics in Ecology, Ecotoxicology and Agricultural Research.
ECOSTAT can assist you in analysing biological data statistically, the interpretation of the results of statistical analysis, the statistical aspects of
designing biological research and the mathematical modelling of biological processes.
"ECOSTAT is a statistical consultancy agency. We offer statistical analysis of biological data, the statistical aspects of the design of biological research
and the modelling of biological processes. Furthermore, we have experience in the teaching of statistics, mathematical biology and ecotoxicology and the organization of symposia. We have also experience in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and the standardization of experimental protocols.
ECOSTAT specializes in the statistical analysis and mathematical modelling of ecological, ecotoxicological and agricultural research.
ECOSTAT was founded in 1998 by Dr. Nelly van der Hoeven.
ECOSTAT works for various governmental institutes, large and small reseach institutes and industries, both
national and international."
